In a recent Becker’s ASC Review feature examining how leaders are thinking about the future of the ambulatory surgery center (ASC) industry, I was included alongside a group of executives shaping the direction of care delivery. What’s clear is that our industry is continuing to shift. More procedures are moving into outpatient settings, physician alignment is becoming increasingly important, and there is growing pressure to deliver better outcomes at a lower total cost. As health systems face rising financial strain, ASCs are playing a more meaningful role in expanding access and improving affordability. But this isn’t just about site of care—it’s about structure. The models that will succeed are those built around physician leadership, accountability, and performance. I’ve long believed that when physicians are aligned with the delivery model—and when incentives are tied to outcomes—we can create a system that is both more efficient and more sustainable. The continued evolution of ASCs is a strong signal that the industry is moving in that direction.
