Sunday, June 7th, 2009Recently, I was in Dallas for the groundbreaking of an exciting new hospital venture that Nueterra Healthcare is a part of. The event reinforced for me the tremendous opportunities we have today – without any additional legislation — to improve how we deliver healthcare. This hospital will have an intense focus on orthopedic care that will attract patients from the entire southwestern U.S., and it is being built not because of legislation or regulations but because physicians and a health system decided to work together. It’s that simple. If all of the stakeholders in healthcare simply worked together to provide patients with the best, most affordable care possible we could make tremendous progress.
Somehow, in all of the debate about healthcare reform, we’ve lost sight of the patient. I hope that as reform legislation moves through Congress, the patient re-enters the discussion.
